The word ‘holiday’ means many different things to different people. Some people like to dance all night and play all day, and an equal number of people (more or less!) prefer to spend their vacation simply lazing on a beautiful beach sipping cool tropical drinks, or taking leisurely strolls, enjoying the scenery, and sampling the local culture. Often, families or groups of friends have difficulty deciding on a holiday destination because they want to do different things. Never fear, whether you’re a party person, a sports buff, or a beach bum, Menorca holidays offer something for everyone.
Regardless of its many assets, there’s no denying the main attraction of this jewelled island in the Mediterranean is its beaches. The more than 100 beaches on the island are all owned by the state, so there is no such thing as a private beach-all are open to the public. (However, some can only be accessed by going through private property, so be sure to get the necessary permissions and follow the set regulations if you plan on going to these beaches.)
Below is a list of the some of the recommended family-friendly beaches to check out when planning your Menorca holidays.
Cala Galdana
Considered one of the top resort beaches on the island, Cala Galdana is always a favourite for those on Menorca holidays with the family. Cala Galdana is a spectacular horseshoe-shaped bay surrounded by cliffs. This ‘Blue Flag’ beach has warm, shallow waters, making it ideal for children. Swimming and snorkelling are especially popular here. There’s also a water park and mini golf course a short drive away for the kids, and plenty of water sport activities for adults.
Punta Prima
Located on the south coast, this large child-friendly beach features shallow, inviting waters and a special area reserved for families with babies and toddlers. A The Most Beautiful Beaches in Italy wooden walkway makes it easy for families carrying paraphernalia such as strollers and baby baskets to reach the beach. A restaurant is located just behind the beach, as well as a supermarket for snacks and essentials. The boats travelling to and from Mahon Harbour provide a great addition to the already spectacular scenery. Kayak excursions are also a great activity for adults.
Playa Cavalleria
This popular, yet unspoilt, resort featuring double-horseshoe coves with red sand beaches is located west of Cap de Cavalleria and is very popular with people who simply wish to relax and have a quiet family day on the sand. A car park is located nearby for the convenience of those travelling with children, and umbrellas and lounge chairs can be rented so you don’t have to worry about bringing your own.
Menorca holidays are the perfect way to spend quality time with your family. The beaches alone are worth the trip, but add the scrumptious local cuisine, the amazing historical sites, the kids’ parks, and the amazing parties (once the children have gone to bed) and you’ve got the perfect destination for the entire family!
